Sing A New Song: Part 1

Last Sunday night, we held a special evening of singing where we learnt a variety of new songs. These songs are new additions to our collection for worship services, and are ones you'll hear more of in the future. To help you become familiar with these songs, we have provided below a collection of resources for each song, such as lyrics, music, and video. Please take time to look through these resources, so that when we sing these songs again, we can sing with knowledge and passion.

The Canberra Declaration

The Canberra Declaration

"Humbly relying on the blessings of Almighty God”

In the lead up to the federal election on Saturday 21st August 2010, the 'Canberra Declaration' has been written to declare that when Christian values are respected and allowed freedom of expression, not just confined to so-called sacred spaces but in the public arena as well, society is richer and healthier, and to continue to declare that we too put our trust in Almighty God, as written in the Australian Constitution, quoted above. It is a document which emphasises the Christian perspective on issues such as religious freedom, marriage and the family, and the sanctity of human life. Read more »

Seniors Club Update

What have the Seniors Club been up to? Find out in poetic form, as written by one of it's members, Mrs Rie Nieuwenhuizen:

In 1983, 14 church members did agree
to start a Seniors club, you see.
Harm Westera was the first president,
and fortnightly many happy hours we spent.
Our largest attendance was 25
but by now we’ve shrunk to 13; that’s life.
The Lord has been gracious year after year,
two of our founding members are still with us here.

MP Sharon Bird on Christian Issues

MP Sharon Bird on Christian Issues

Derek Thomson of Five Islands Christian Ministries (a Illawarra combined-churches organisation) has contacted each of our local members and candidates to ask their views on certain issues close to the heart of Christians.
The questions he posed the candidates were:

  1. Are you a Christian and, if so, what church do you attend?
  2. MP's usually are allowed a conscience vote on moral issues. Broadly speaking, how would you describe your moral values? In particular, what are your views on abortion, marriage, and homosexuality.
  3. What is your position on religious education in schools and the School Chaplaincy program?

Another Attack On Family

There is currently another attempt to undermine the definition of parental couple from man and woman to same sex Couple, as an amendment to the NSW Adoption legislation. Debate will resume after the winter recess ends on 31 August, so a vote could occur in early September. A conscience vote is expected, but Premier Keneally has indicated that she will support the legislation.

We need to protect the right of every child to be raised by a mother and a father to the fullest extent that this is possible.

You can help by writing a short letter or email to Premier Kristina Keneally, or to our local members:
