Christians and Politics - “2010 - Make It Count”

Christians and Politics - “2010 - Make It Count”

When challenged about our obligation to governments through taxes, Jesus affirmed our responsibility to pay in Matthew 22:17-21. Paul, in Romans 13:1, gave the reason why: "Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is not authority except that which God has established." And Peter affirmed this in 1 Peter 2:13-14 "Submit yourself for the Lord's sake to every authority instituted among men: whether to the king, as the supreme authority, or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and commend those who do right."
In light of God's instructions regarding our responsibility to governments, we have an obligatoin to ensure we are voting for the appropriate government for this country in the up-coming Federal election. Read more »

"Has the church become captive to the spirit of the age?"
This is the opening question of an article by Peter Hastie, Australian Presbyterian, Sept 2009. In this confronting article, Peter Hastie talks with Michael Horton, professor of systematic theology and apologetics at Westminster Theological Seminary (California), about his new book "Christless Christianity" and how American culture is killing the Gospel. Soccer Update

Well last week saw both our teams, and their supporters, withstand some windy and icy conditions at Thomas Dalton Park as we took on Concrete Innovative. We've had a couple of people ask who Concrete Innovative are- Concrete are a relatively new team to the church league and are a church that is partnered with International Apostolic Ministries. The church is located in Coniston and has a weekly 10am Sunday service.

Our Reformed B's had a 1-1 draw while the Reformed A's were also also lucky to come away with a 2-2 draw. Reformed B's are now sitting at 5th position on the First Division ladder and Reformed A's are also currently sitting at 5th position on the Premier Division ladder.
Well done to both teams!! Read more »

Ascended On High

Thursday last week (13th May) was 'Ascension Day', where Christians celebrate Jesus' glorious rise to heaven, where he 'stands in victory!". Christ's ascension to heaven is an important reality for us to grasp, but often overlooked.

Why is Jesus' ascension so amazing and significant? Bruce Milne, in his book "Know The Truth", sets out some of the wondrous benefits of Ascension Day. They are summarised below:

  • Security: "The ascension proclaims the reign of Christ...The world is even now within his authority. Nothing can affect or afflict us but by his permission"
